Life is full of challenges and responsibility, and all too often it seems that creativity gets stifled along the way. But who says grown-ups aren’t allowed to have fun? Azure Paint Studio makes art accessible to everyone! We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds to come in and enjoy the freedom of creative expression in an engaging social environment.
Studies show that painting actually has many health benefits for seniors! Dr. Gene Cohen published a paper titled The Creativity and Aging Study in 2007, revealing the results of a six-year study involving seniors engaging in creative activities. Seniors actively involved in arts were found to be in better physical health than those not involved. The study featured a wide range of artistic activities including painting, poetry, pottery, dance, music, drama, material culture, and oral histories in the creative context.
Overall, the study showed that participants involved in art had decreased rates of loneliness and depression, higher morale, better dexterity, improved mood, and more confidence. Artistic expression has also been shown to:
- Improve communication and socialization skills
- Help with anxiety, depression, and relaxation
- Reduce boredom
- Encourage humor and playfulness
- Boost self-esteem
- Improve cognition
- Offer sensory stimulation
- Reduce stress
